Title: Before You

Author: Jenna Bennett

Before You

It’s all fun and games

I had a simple plan for spring break.

Sun, sand, and a hot guy. Sex on the beach, with no strings attached.

A chance to get rid of this pesky virginity once and for all.

And when I met Tyler McKenna, I thought I had it made.

Until someone gets hurt

But then girls started turning up at Key West landmarks. Girls who looked like me, but with one crucial difference: They’d all been drugged and relieved of their virginity.

The virginity I still have. The virginity Ty refuses to take.

And now I’ve begun to wonder whether there isn’t more to him than meets the eye.

Suddenly, sex on the beach doesn’t sound so good anymore…

Between Us

I’m just a girl…

I’m a famous country star who’s spent her life cultivating a good girl persona to avoid bad press, but I’ve reached my limit. I’m going away for spring break with my two best friends from college, and we’ve vowed to spend the vacation seeking out fun in the sun—along with some hot, no-strings-attached sex. The only thing I needed was the perfect guy, and then I met Austin Murphy. He might be totally wrong for me, but the tattooed bad boy is hard to resist. When I’m in his arms, everything just feels right.

And I’m just a guy…

I’m just a bartender who lives in Key West, stuck in an endless cycle of boredom. But then Mackenzie Forbes, America’s Sweetheart herself, comes up to me and looks at me with those bright green eyes…and everything changes. She acts like she’s just a normal girl and I’m just a normal guy, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. My past isn’t pretty, you know. I did what I had to do to survive, and she’d run if she learned the truth about my darkness. But with her, I’m finally realizing what it’s like to be alive. To laugh, live, and be happy.

All good things must come to an end…

Beyond Me

CAN FUN IN THE SUN TURN INTO LASTING LOVE?

Spring break in Key West with my besties was supposed to be casual fun. But I never expected to meet James Hunt. Sex and frolic? Yes! A relationship? No. But his hot blue eyes and confident manner drew me in. And when he let me see the man behind the mask, I fell hard, foolishly believing there could be a future for us. Of course I never considered our relationship might be based on lies…or that his betrayal could rock my foundation and make me question everything I believed in…

OR WILL A LIFE BUILT ON LIES RUIN EVERYTHING?

The moment I saw Quinn I knew I had to have her. She hooked me with her cool eyes and don’t touch me attitude. I had it all, money, social status, and looks. I could get any girl I wanted…until her. When my friends challenged me with a bet to get her into bed by the end of the week, I couldn’t pass it up. But sex wasn’t supposed to turn into love. She wasn’t supposed to change me, push me, and make me want more for myself. She wasn’t supposed to wreck me in all ways. And now, if I can’t turn my lies into truth, I just might lose her forever…

Awesome People, I Need Some Help!

Book Blogger Love-A-Thon 2014

Dear awesome people,

The 3rd Annual Book Blogger Love-A-Thon is quickly approaching, perhaps a bit quicker than I am prepared for but I’m excited for it nonetheless! Okay, maybe excited is a bit of an understatement for me considering I’m currently at the giggling, squealing, voice-can-only-be-heard-by-dogs phase. Obviously this event is near and dear to my heart and I have been absolutely blown away by the support and excitement surrounding the event by bloggers and authors already.

If this is the first time you’ve heard of the event, let me take a quick moment to explain it to you. I started the Love-A-Thon as a way for bloggers and authors to share the love. I wanted everyone to be able to take a day or two to learn about new blogs and spend time visiting some of the oldies but goodies; a day where bloggers and authors can come together to share the word about their favorite book blogs and have a lot of fun. Throw in a few mini challenges, twitter chats, and lots of giveaways, and you’ve got an event that is just as much fun to plan as it is to participate in. (If you want to learn even more about the event, or sign up!, you can check out this post here or contact me at katelynsblog@aol.com)

Now I suppose I’ve come to the part of this post where I actually ask for the help, the part I have actually been kind of dreading. I ask you to please bear with me because I absolutely LOATHE asking for favors. I’m totally one of those people who carry in 500 lbs of groceries and uses her feet to open doors when her hands are full because I just can’t stand asking people to help me out. But I really want this year to be super special for the Love-A-Thon and all of its participants. They are spending two whole days tweeting about, sharing, commenting and loving on their favorite blogs and Alexa and I would really like to give them a little love in return. We’ve already had a few gracious, amazing donations (seriously it was enough to make me giggle and cry at the same time. That’s serious people), and we have been compiling prizes over time, BUT we are still accepting more from now until the event starts on February 15th. Even if you aren’t able to participate in the event, you can still share your love for bloggers by donating towards the giveaway. Swag, gift cards, and bookish prizes are all welcome! If you would like to donate or you have questions or concerns regarding the event, please feel free to contact me at katelynsblog@aol.com. Thank you so much for all of your love and support <3

Love,

A very grateful little blogger

Happy Tuesday everyone! I hope your week is going good so far! Mine would be going fantastically if it weren’t so freaking cold. I know the coldness comes with living in Michigan but I honestly cannot take much more of this winter. I am so ready for warm, relaxing days. All this cold weather has put me in a weird mood music wise. I’m talking moody-melancholy-songs-are-the-only-thing-I-listen-to type of mood. My favorite, favorite playlist for moments like this is one I found on Spotify. The playlist is called November Leaves, and seriously it is totally worth a listen. A lot of my favorite bands and songs are on the playlist but I have also found some super amazing new music from it. I have the whole playlist down below for you but I also decided to highlight a few of my favorite songs from it. I hope you enjoy!

Lost In My Mind by The Head and The Heart

I love The Head and The Heart, I’ve loved them since the very first listen so it’s hard to say which one of their songs is my favorite but this one would definitely be a contender.

Blood by The Middle East

The Middle East creates absolutely INCREDIBLE music. For this band, I can say without a doubt, this is my favorite of theirs. It is so beautiful and whoever created the music video is all sorts of talented.

Count Me In by Early Winters

Such a sweet, beautiful song and I love, love, LOVE the piano.

A SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:

February is going to be a special edition month, YAY!!! This month is going to be a repeat of an edition we’ve already had but I had a special request to bring it back and I honestly really wanted to do it again as well :) So what is the theme you may ask? LOVE SONG EDITION of course! I mean February is the month of love so it only made sense. So start getting your favorite love songs together and get ready to start sharing them in February. And as always, feel free to skip out on the special edition if it isn’t your thing!

Today is the official release day of the third book in Summer Lane’s Collapse series, State of Rebellion! In celebration of Summer’s latest release, we’ve got a great guest post from Summer, an awesome sneak peek, and giveaway for you here today. Be sure to check it all out down below!

GUEST POST:

Making my War Real

One of the most defined challenges of writing State of Rebellion was creating a warzone that was believable. There have been too many wars too count since earth’s history began, and Cassidy’s war had to be equally as dramatic.

Fictitious? Yes. But real.

In this installment of The Collapse Series, big battlefields come into play. The fight against Omega is now out in the open, an all out war. One foe against the other, and victory is going to be costly. I had to move a small militia force into the wide open spaces, pair them bigger military forces, teach them maneuvers and strategies, give them weapons, vehicles, and access to technology that would help them in their fight against Omega.

Warfare is not a random gathering of one army on one side of a field and another one on the opposite side. It’s strategic, it’s complicated, and I had to make it believable for the veterans of real combat situations and fun enough for even the youngest reader to enjoy. There was a fine balance I had to search for, and once I hit it, the story became richer than ever before.  I paid attention to the minute details in every scene, making sure my major players were doing and saying things that were in sync with a legitimate combat situation. And the chemistry between Cassidy and Chris in high-stress situations has been an incredible learning experience. Imagine what you would be feeling if the person you loved was your commanding officer. How would you deal with that? How would you react if he or she got hurt or even died in combat? The pressure has been dialed way, way up in State of Rebellion, and you’ll just have to read the book and see if Cassidy makes it out of this one alive.

Thank you for reading my books!

“This,” he says, “is all yours.”

I step into the room. Weapons and equipment are hanging from every nook and cranny. It’s a goldmine of war goodies. Chris, however, is holding up a single object. A rifle. It’s brand new, it’s sleek, and it’s awesome. He hands it to me.

It’s mine.

I curl my fingers around the weapon, the metal cool against my skin. I test the weight. Not too heavy. Just right for my size. A scope is mounted on top of the weapon.

“I’ve really needed one of these,” I say.

“You’re a great shot without optics,” he replies. “With it you’ll be unstoppable.” He hoists a backpack. “I packed this for you. It’s got a new uniform, supplies, equipment. Upgraded radio, night vision goggles.” He grins and pulls out a small handgun. “There are some nice toys in here, too. This one’s just your size.”

“You packed this for me?” I asked, touched. Because with all of the things he’s got to worry about, it’s beyond sweet that he would go to the trouble of getting supplies together for me. “Thank you.”

“My pleasure.” He drapes one strap of the pack over my shoulder. “You’re really in the military now, Cassie. It suits you.”

“I don’t know.” I gaze up at his sure, handsome face. “Does it?”

“I wouldn’t lie to you.” He tucks a loose strand of hair behind my ear. “There’s not a lot of people that would adjust to this sort of lifestyle so well. You’ve got a gift.”

“I’ve got a great leader,” I reply, standing on my tiptoes. “You.”

He laughs softly, placing one hand on each side of my waist.

“Is that so?” he asks.

“Yes.” I kiss his cheek. “Thank you, Chris. For everything.”

“Don’t thank me yet.”

Blog Tour + Book Review + Giveaway: Playing For Love At Deep Haven by Katy Regnery

Playing for Love At Deep Haven

Title: Playing For Love At Deep Haven (Enchanted Places #1)

Author: Katy Regnery

Pages: 275

My Rating: 5/5 Stars

Source: I received this book in exchange for an honest and thoughtful review

Violet Smith and Zach Aubrey have history…
…the kind of history he regrets and she wishes she could forget.

She was the girl. The only girl. Ever.

Nine years have passed since heavy-metal songwriter, Zach, slept with, then walked away from, his best friend, Violet. But that doesn’t change the fact that he’s never gotten over her.

He shattered her heart.

Despite the years that have passed, chick-lit novelist, Violet, vividly recalls the pain of Zach’s rejection, and hates that she’s never been able to completely let go of the brooding boy who turned his back on her.

When the rocker and the writer find themselves thrown back together in a strange twist of fate, their chemistry is just as scorching as ever, but old wounds don’t just disappear. Even if Zach can explain why he walked away from Violet, can she find the courage to trust him again? Together they will discover if a love that broke them both is worth a second chance at forever.

Playing songs, playing for keeps…
…Playing for Love at Deep Haven

This book has totally stolen my heart. I was expecting to enjoy Violet and Zach’s story but I was not expecting to fall in love with their past, their fallout, their pain, and their reunion. Playing For Love At Deep Haven proved to be a fantastic book full of genuine characters and a love story I can only hope for.

When we first meet Zach and Violet, it has been 9 hard, long, heartbreaking years since they have last seen each other. Life hasn’t gone quite the way either expected. Zach, a musical prodigy who graduated from Julliard finds himself writing crap music for heavy metal bands and occasionally playing gigs as a fill in guitarist instead of writing the beautiful music his past love knew he was capable of. Violet finds herself alone, grieving the death of her long-time boyfriend, and desperately trying to work over her writer’s block to produce a book for her publisher she isn’t even passionate about. Long are the days she used to spend writing beautiful poetry with a deep meaning.

Both seeking a reprieve from the strain of their daily lives, they both end up in Maine and by a strange twist of events, staying at the same house. This is where the story really starts to take off. For years, 9 to be exact, Violet and Zach have lived their own separate lives but each longing for one another, longing for the passion, companionship, rightness, and love they held, and still hold for each other after all these years.

I absolutely loved how Katy wrote this story. Her writing was beautiful, yes, but beyond that, she allowed us to get to know two character how they are today and get a glimpse at who they used to be. I loved how effortlessly this story flipped between memories of the past and things that were happening in the here and now. How Zach used to be and who he is today, and the same for Violet. Zach is this broken-hearted rockstar wishing desperately he could go back 9 years and tell the girl he loved exactly how she felt and Violet is this broken-hearted, scared, sheltered woman an almost exact opposite of the easy-going, free-spirited young girl she used to be before her heart was shattered 9 years ago.

Fate brought these two back together and I adored watching it all play out during their stay at Deep Haven. Everything from Violet’s obvious hurt and anger over the way Zach left her so long ago. Zach’s regret and desperate attempts to show Violet just how much he cares, how much he’s always cared for her. Over the course of two weeks, you watch a broken, shattered mess of a relationship, change and blossom into something so genuine and beautiful.

Maybe it was because music played a huge part or maybe it was the poetry and song lyrics that scattered  some of the pages of this book. Or maybe it was because I could see a little of myself in both Zach and Violet. Or maybe it was because I wish for a love as passionate and lasting as Zach and Violet’s, a love that was tested time and time again but still stood strong. Whatever the reason may be, I loved this book. I loved it from the very first page to the very end. I loved seeing Zach and Violet as young college students, making the leap from friends to something more. I loved seeing how 9 years spent living a life away from one another changed them in more ways than one. I loved seeing how when together again, they found their way back to who they used to be. And I certainly loved how they each learned from one another; learned to trust, open up, and love again.

If you are looking for a solid love story with two fantastic characters, a beautiful Maine setting, and lovely writing that will have you flipping from page to page as fast as you possibly can, than I definitely suggest you pick up Playing For Love At Deep Haven by Katy Regnery. It is most definitely worth the read.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Katy Regnery

Katy Regnery, winner of the 2013 NECRWA First Kiss and 2013 Maine RWA Everything But the Kitchen Sink contests, has always loved telling a good story and credits her mother with making funny, heartwarming tales come alive throughout her childhood. A lifelong devotee of all romance writing from Edwardian to present-day, it was just a matter of time before Katy tried her hand at writing a love story of her own.

As it turned out, one love story turned into a series of five Heart of Montana romances, following the love lives of the Yellowstone-based Lindstrom siblings. In addition to small-town contemporary romance, Katy is presently writing a paranormal romance that takes place in northern New England and the forests north of Quebec.

Speaking of forests, Katy lives in the relative-wilds of northern Fairfield County, Connecticut where her writing room looks out at the woods and her husband, two young children and two dogs create just enough cheerful chaos to remind her that the very best love stories of all are the messy and unexpected ones.

Blog Tour + Book Review: The One Left Behind by Lena Nicole

The One Left Behind

Title: The One Left Behind

Author: Lena Nicole

My Rating: 4/5 Stars

Source: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest and thoughtful review

Colin and Addison are on their way home when they are caught in a vicious car accident. While Colin walks away with minimal injuries, Addison suffers from a traumatic brain injury causing her to lose her short-term memory. She can’t remember the night of the accident. She doesn’t remember being engaged. She doesn’t remember Colin at all.

While Addison rebuilds her life, Colin struggles with the fact that the love of his life doesn’t remember him.

When Addison meets Pierce, the one person who doesn’t have an ulterior motive, the one person she can talk to openly, Colin thinks his life may be over.

Will Addison’s memory return in time for her to save her relationship with Colin? Or is it gone forever, leaving her free to love Pierce?

Going into this book, I knew I would have a hard time with it. Not because it sounded bad. Quite the opposite actually. This book sounded amazing but I knew when it came to the subject matter it would strike a chord with me. In the end, this book took me on the emotional roller coaster I was expecting and then some.

After my best friend was in a car accident that left her in the hospital with a severe brain injury, there were several moments that I worried how life would be different when things got back to normal. Little did I know that at the time, things would never get back to normal, we just had to find and create ourselves a new normal. Having this life experience, I felt like I could really connect with all of the characters in The One Left Behind. Like all the characters involved in this book, the normal they were used to, the normal in which Addison and Colin were engaged and ready to be married, a normal in which a random group of people became a big group of friends because of two people, well, that normal just didn’t exist anymore.

This story crumbled my heart in so many ways. I have never been so conflicted over characters and their relationship before. I can usually go into a story picking out the guy I want to root for and then smiling like I just won a trophy at the end of the book when the MC ends up with that guy. For this story, I went through so many phases. There were several phases in which I wanted to hug Colin. The guy was obviously heartbroken considering he fiance didn’t remember him. There were probably even more instances that I was insanely irritated with Addison for hurting Colin over and over again. And then there were moments where I felt so guilty because I remembered that it is not her fault she can’t remember and she is just living her life the best way she could. There were moments I swooned for Colin and probably and equal amount of moments in which I swooned for Pierce. So now that I am finished with this book, you can probably understand why I still don’t know where my feelings are with the whole thing.

I may not be able to tell you exactly how I feel about the characters and how the story ended up but I can tell you this: this book is definitely worth the read because for every moment that will hurt your heart and piss you off, there are even more moments you will smile. You will be cheering both Addison and Colin on as they move forward with their life. You will smile when funny things happen with Addison and Colin’s friends because at some point in the story, it’s like they become your friends too. And maybe you will read this book and your response will be totally different from mine. Maybe you will be Team Colin or Team Pierce, or maybe you will even be Team Addison but I really think you need to read this to decide for yourself.

I know this review is really just a jumbled mess of words but I think that’s maybe because after reading this book, my thoughts and feelings for all things The One Left Behind are a jumbled mess too. I don’t know how I feel about Colin, or Pierce, or Addison but I do know that overall, I loved this book. I loved that it made me feel everything that was good, bad, ugly, and everywhere else in between. It’s in your best interest to give this one a read so you can perhaps decide for yourself. And also, because it’s pretty amazing!

Hi there fellow music lovers! How is your Tuesday going so far? I hope it is going fantastically!

To me, music should always be listened to at random. Every time I purchase a CD, I can only listen to it on random and every time I turn on my Spotify or iTunes, the random button is the second button I press after play. With this being said, I decided I would go for a random post today. I pulled up my Spotify and let it do all the work. I hope you all enjoy and I cannot wait to see what picks you have for this awesome Tuesday!

When Nothing’s Left by Royal Wood

Royal Wood is another Spotify suggestion that I absolutely love!

Radioactive by Boyce Avenue

It’s no secret that I adore all things Boyce Avenue. I just love his song covers!

Dancing With The Devil by Wolf Gang

Wolf Gang has such a unique sound that I can’t seem to get enough of.

Take My Hand by The Cab featuring Cassadee Pope

I haven’t listened to The Cab in so long but they are one of those bands that I never get sick of, no matter how much time has passed. And look, it’s Cassadee Pope in her Hey Monday days!

Whistle by Flo Rida

This song is as disturbing as it is catchy. Even now, almost 2 years after this single was released, I still can’t help but dance around to it.

The Fine Line

Title: The Fine Line

Author: Alicia Kobishop

High school senior Liv Evans has one rule: No attachments. She’s lost enough in her life and has vowed to do whatever it takes to make sure she never again feels the emptiness of losing someone she loves. Boys are a fun distraction, but a serious relationship is something she’d rather live without. Her determination for a future free of pain and heartbreak is put to the test when she meets–and quickly forms an unexpected bond–with Logan Tanner.

Logan has always been a free spirit, but ever since a life-changing event took place, which left him doubting the integrity of those who are closest to him, he’s taken that term to a whole new dangerous level. Learning the hard way that life is too short for worries or work–and that women can’t be trusted–Logan has exchanged steady work for street racing. When Liv walks into his world, everything he thought he knew about life and women is challenged.

In The Fine Line, Liv and Logan will discover if it’s possible for true love to have a future, or if history is destined to repeat itself.

I am so, so, so excited to be featuring Alicia and her book on the blog here today! The Fine Line sounds EXACTLY like the type of book I would like and I am sure you all will enjoy it too. It makes me beyond happy that I’m able to share an awesome book playlist and sneak peek with you all today. Be sure to check both out below and of course, let us know what you think in the comment section!

BOOK PLAYLIST + GUEST POST:

Below is the amazing playlist that Alicia created to go along with The Fine Line. Alicia also wrote up a mini guest post talking about her top three songs for this book!

Between the Raindrops by Lifehouse (feat. Natasha Bedingfield)

If The Fine Line had a theme song…this would be it.  I hadn’t heard this song until I was close to finishing the book and everything about this song perfectly describes Liv and Logan’s relationship…from the way they deal with the challenges they face, to the way they can’t give up on each other.  There’s even a line in the song that says, “crossing the fine lines we knew.”

Little Wing by Stevie Ray Vaughan

We all know that Jimmi Hendrix gave the world some phenomenal music, with Little Wing topping many charts.  But have you ever heard Stevie Ray Vaughan’s version of Little Wing?  Holy cow, it’s sexy!  No vocals…All instrumental.  Logan played this song for Liv just before their first kiss.  She did a pretty good job of resisting his charm before this point in the book, but mix this song with Logan, and how could she resist?

Beautiful Day by Saving Abel

There is a scene in the book, which I call “the sunrise scene,” that is completely inspired by this song.  And by a beautiful sunrise that my son pointed out to me one morning.  :)  It’s at a point in the book where Logan lays all his cards out on the table.  He’s vulnerable, and so is Liv.  Neither one of them are sure how to move forward in their relationship.  Oh hell, here’s an excerpt from that part:

“Liv, wake up,” Logan whispered softly. A hum came out of my throat as I shifted off his shoulder and turned away from him, burrowing my face in the cool pillow beside us. The soft fabric smelled like Logan. I took one more deep, heavenly breath in. How long had I been asleep? Based on my current comatose state, not long. His hand casually brushed up and down my arm. “You’ve got to see this.”

Intrigued, my eyes cracked open, just enough to see the blurry orange and purple hues reflect on the bare walls of Logan’s bedroom. His fingers brushed my hair off my face and behind my ear.

“Open your eyes, baby. It’s beautiful.”

He called me baby.

I turned to face him as I opened my eyes, confused and unexpectedly delighted by his term of endearment. When my eyes finally focused and saw his beautiful face lit up by the colors of the sunrise, my bewilderment grew incredibly. His eyes glowed as he studied me. I had never seen him look this peaceful and content. He smiled at my expression then huffed out a single laugh.

“It slipped,” he said as if he read my mind. “Get over it.”

He moved off the bed and leisurely walked to the window, placing his wrist on the window frame above his head and his other hand on his hip, as he gazed out with a more contemplative expression. Then he turned to face me and the corners of his mouth turned up slightly.  He extended his hand, motioning for me to join him.

Cover Reveal + Giveaway: The One Left Behind by Lena Nicole

Title: The One Left Behind

Author: Lena Nicole

Today I’ve got an awesome cover reveal (more like a cover update considering this book has already been released) and it is also the kick-off for the blog tour for The One Left Behind. I will be on the tour on Jan. 21st so be sure to stop by the blog on that date for my review.

Now that that’s out of the way, we can move on to the cover awesomeness that’s about to be thrown your way. This story always sounded great to me but the old cover didn’t really catch my eye. This new cover is pretty and eye-catching and, in my opinion, a whole lot better than the previous one. Since I am sure you are dying to see it, let’s get rolling with the revealing of the cover!
