Hello everyone! I hope your Monday treated you well and that your Tuesday is off to an awesome start. This post concludes the special Cover Edition of Tune In Tuesday. I have had an absolute BLAST seeing everyone’s covers and I hope you have enjoyed it as well. And just so we’re clear, the month of October will be another “normal” month for us Tune-In-Tuesday-Ers! I’ve got quite a big post for you guys today because, quite honestly, I couldn’t narrow down the list. I hope you enjoy!

Dead And Gone by Cute Is What We Aim For (Original by T.I. and Justin Timberlake)

If you haven’t yet, you NEED to listen to at least one of the “Punk Goes…” albums. My personal favorite is Punk Goes Classic Rock but the Punk Goes Pop (where this song comes from) is close second. The original got way overplayed on the radio when it first came out but I love this cover of it.

Caught Up In You by We The Kings (Original by .38 Special)

You had to have known I would throw in a We The Kings song. They have done a few covers, The Middle being another favorite, but I just love how fun and upbeat this one is!

You’re The One That I Want by Angus & Julia Stone (Original by John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John)

I love, love, freaking LOVE this version of the song. It is so hauntingly beautiful and totally different from the original.

The One That Got Away by Tiffany Alvord and Chester See (Original by Katy Perry)

Both Tiffany and Chester are amazing artists I found on YouTube. I liked Katy’s version of this song but I really like this version a lot more mostly due to the fact that they slowed it down a lot.

Let Her Go by Tyler Ward (Original by Passenger)

Tyler Ward is another artist I found on YouTube who does some fantastic covers. This particular one is a favorite although it really is hard to narrow it down because I sort of love them all hardcore. He really didn’t change this one up a whole lot from the original and I think that’s what I like most about it.

Ring Of Fire by Lennon and Maisy (Original by Johnny Cash)

Every time I hear these two perform, I am blown away by their natural talent. I could listen to them sing the phone book and I would be entertained for hours and hours but you know what, I think I will stick with a Johnny Cash classic in the meantime.

Bette Davis Eyes by Taylor Swift (Original by Kim Carnes)

Nothing can beat the orignal of this one but I must say, I really enjoy Taylor’s cover of it. Her voice is totally different from Kim’s so it makes for a really interesting cover.

Ho Hey by Boyce Avenue (Original by The Lumineers)

This couldn’t even be called cover edition if I didn’t feature the kings of it, Boyce Avenue. Every cover, and yes, I do mean EVERY. SINGLE. COVER. by them is simply amazing. This guy has some truly amazing skills.

Your Love by Fay Wolf (Original by The Outfield)

This will go down in history as my all-time, absolute FAVORITE cover. EVER. I love the original something fierce; it’s one of those songs I can listen to over and over again but there is just something about this cover that I love just a teensy bit more. Hope you enjoy!

Hello there lovely people and Happy Tuesday! I hope your May is off to a fantastic start so far!

So something exciting happened in the life of Kate just a few days ago. For this last Christmas, my sister Abby and I got tickets to a Taylor Swift concert that took place a few days ago on May 4th! I know you guys know that I have a deep love for Taylor and her music; I also know that not all of you are fans of her so no worries, today’s post is not actually about her…or at least completely (on a very related side note: She put on a FANTASTIC show. Whether you like her music or not, she puts on an incredibly entertaining concert and I most certainly suggest seeing her live if you ever have the chance!) For the concert, Taylor had a few opening acts, two of which we missed because of INSANE traffic but we made it to the important one and that would be the absolutely incredible, phenomenal, amazing, and insanely talented Ed Sheeran. Ed just has a way with words and his music appeals to so many different kinds of music fans. I loved him before seeing him live and even though I thought it was impossible, I love him even more after that performance. I decided that I would share a few of my favorite Ed Sheeran songs with you guys today. Hope you enjoy!

Abby & I

Abby & I at the Ed Sheeran/Taylor Swift concert!

Lego House by Ed Sheeran

I’m not even mad that the radio station is playing the heck out of this song now because I love it that much! Also I only have two words (okay, more like three): RON FREAKING WEASLEY

Drunk by Ed Sheeran

Okay, I really like the song but I think I like it a little more because of the cat in the music video.

Everything Has Changed by Taylor Swift & Ed Sheeran

They played this song together at the concert and it was one of my favorite parts. The lyrics are so sweet and I think their voices go together so nicely! And you guys, I just couldn’t resist sneaking in a T-Swizzle song ;)

Give Me Love by Ed Sheeran

This creepy, gorgeous, beautiful video just so happens to be my favorite Ed song. There really are no words as to why I love it so much; it just is what it is.

This week I am going a little bit random and a whole lot country! I know I don’t usually share country music on here but it is a big part of what I listen to on a regular basis. Sometimes I just get in these little moods and that’s ALL I feel like listening too. The past month or so, it seems like I have been listening to country a lot more than usual and that is partly in thanks to the songs I’ve picked out today. I flip between our 3 local country stations just to see if they are playing every time I get in the car. I just can’t help it, they are that good!

Mama’s Broken Heart by Miranda Lambert

Miranda has so much sass, I just love it! I really wasn’t a huge fan of her until I saw her in concert. She put on such an awesome show! The shirt I got from that concert has lyrics from this song on it.

I Don’t Want This Night To End by Luke Bryan

This song gets the heck played out of it but it is one of those songs I just don’t get sick of. In fact ALL of Luke’s songs are ones I don’t get sick of.

Every Storm (Runs Out Of Rain) by Gary Allan

This is such a beautiful song, plain and simple.

Highway Don’t Care by Tim McGraw, Taylor Swift, & Keith Urban

Not only do I love this song because I ADORE all three people who sing it, but it is also a simply wonderful, somewhat sad song.

Cruise by Florida Georgia Line

This song rocks my socks off every time I hear it! I was having a sucktastic day yesterday but this song came on and I just couldn’t help but grin!

It’s Tuesday, it’s February, and it’s the month of love. Do you know what this all means? Tune In Tuesday: Love Song Edition is here! For those of you that may not know, for the month of February, us Tune In Tuesday-ers will be posting our favorite love songs! For each Tuesday of this month I plan to post a few completely random (yet totally awesome!) love songs that I just, well…love! So, without further ado…

Keep On Loving You by REO Speedwagon

So I’m a little bit unconventional with the whole love song thing…

Poison & Wine by The Civil Wars

“I don’t have a choice but I’d still choose you.” How do those words not make you melt?!?

Forever And Always by Parachute

This song makes me wail like a baby every single time. It is just the sweetest most heartbreaking song I’ve ever heard!

Sparks Fly by Taylor Swift

Whenever I think about the type of relationship I someday hope to have, this song ALWAYS comes to mind <3

Ho Hey by The Lumineers

Goodness gracious, I could listen to The Lumineers every minute of every day! This is still one of my favorite songs. It is just so simple, blunt, and incredibly adorable!

Blog Tour + Book Playlist: Elder by Raine Thomas

If you have followed my blog in the past, odds are you have heard me mention my good friend Raine Thomas. Not only is Raine a “Blog Post Tweeting Extraordinaire” but she is also the AWESOME author behind the Daughters of Saraqael series and the Firstborn series! Elder, the third book in the Firstborn series was recently released so when the time came for the blog tour, I had no other option but to hop on board! Raine and I have had so much fun with book playlists in the past so I asked if she would put one together for you guys, and trust me SHE DID NOT DISAPPOINT! Raine has compiled so many awesome songs to fit in with Elder but before we get to that, let’s learn a little more about the book!

Elder

Clara Kate is one of the eight beings needed to activate the Elder Scroll, an ancient artifact causing tragedy and darkness on the Estilorian plane. She knows that her focus needs to be on finding the final piece and stopping the evil Mercesti, but Ini-herit isn’t making it easy.

He’s working closely with Clara Kate on the quest to stop their enemies…too close for her comfort. His presence serves as a constant reminder of the love they shared on the human plane, a love that he no longer remembers at all.

Her life and the lives of those she loves are at risk, and she knows she has to put aside her personal problems. So far on their journey, she’s endured heartbreak, terror, pain and loss. She’s even been brought to the brink of death.

She thinks things can’t get any worse.

She’s wrong.

I’ll admit, I still need to read the first two books in this series (I am confident this WILL happen in 2013) but I just can’t help but want to read this one ASAP! It sounds so good! Now I know you guys all came here for a little fun and a lot of music so without further ado, here is the book playlist for Elder!

Playlist for ELDER by Raine Thomas

Elder begins with a focus on the relationship between the two main characters, Clara Kate and Ini-herit. The prologue conveys the depth of the connection they shared before the trilogy begins, and the reader finally realizes why they’re now so distant. Katy Perry’s “Wide Awake” is the perfect song to convey what Clara Kate—nicknamed Angel by Ini-herit—experiences.

KEY LYRICS:

I’m wide awake.

Yeah, I was in the dark,

I was falling hard

With an open heart.

I’m wide awake.

[Chorus]

Falling from Cloud 9,

Crashing from the high,

I’m letting go tonight.

Yeah, I’m falling from Cloud 9.

Early on in the writing of Elder, I often listened to “Both of Us” by Taylor Swift and B.o.B. The essence of this song captures the core of what Clara Kate feels as she puts her heart to the side to focus on the bigger picture.

KEY LYRICS:

I wish I was strong enough

To lift not one but both of us.

Someday I will be strong enough

To lift not one but both of us.

Since Defy, readers have watched Zachariah work through the negative feelings he has about his past. In Elder, that self-exploration continues, and he relies heavily on Tate’s love to help him find himself. Kelly Clarkson’s “Dark Side” really resonates with this element of the story.

KEY LYRICS:

There’s a place that I know…

It’s not pretty there, and few have ever gone.

If I show it to you now,

Will it make you run away?

Or will you stay,

Even if it hurts?

Even if I try to push you out,

Will you return

And remind me who I really am?

Please remind me who I really am.

Everybody’s got a dark side.

Do you love me?

Can you love mine?

Another relationship developed throughout the trilogy is that between Tiege and Ariana. Ariana changes more than any other character throughout the books. She has much to overcome to feel worthy of love, and Tiege is just the male to show her she is. “Wanted” by Hunter Hayes brings to mind their relationship.

KEY LYRICS:

You know I’d fall apart without you.

I don’t know how you do what you do.

‘Cause everything that don’t make sense about me

Makes sense when I’m with you.

Like everything that’s green, girl I need you.

But it’s more than one and one makes two.

Put aside the math and the logic of it.

You gotta know you’re wanted, too.

‘Cause I wanna wrap you up,

Wanna kiss your lips.

I wanna make you feel wanted

And I wanna call you mine.

Wanna hold your hand forever,

Never let you forget it

Yeah, I wanna make you feel wanted.

Outside of the individual relationships progressing in Elder, there is also the coming together of the eight beings required to activate the Elder Scroll. The level of commitment between the eight is reflected, at least in part, in the song “Oath” by Cher Llyod.

KEY LYRICS:

My best friend, best friend ‘til the very end,

‘Cause best friends, best friends don’t have to pretend.

You need a hand, and I’m right there right beside you;

You in the dark, I’ll be the bright light to guide you.

[Chorus]

Wherever you go, just always remember

That you got a home, for now and forever;

And if you get low, just call me whenever.

This is my oath to you.

Throughout the battle at the end of Elder, I listened to “Skyfall” by Adele. There is something so compelling about the dark sweeps of violins and her amazing, smoky voice. The lyrics also tie well into the story, so there was no leaving it off the playlist.

KEY LYRICS:

Where you go I go,

What you see I see.

I know I’d never be me

Without the security

Of your loving arms

Keeping me from harm.

Put your hand in my hand

And we’ll stand.

Let the sky fall (let the sky fall)

When it crumbles (when it crumbles)

We will stand tall (we will stand tall)

Face it all together.

The conflict in the relationship between Clara Kate and Ini-herit hinges on emotion. When I heard “Feel Again” by OneRepublic, I knew that it would round out the Elder playlist. It’s just too fitting!

KEY LYRICS:

It’s been a long time coming since I’ve seen your face.

I’ve been everywhere and back trying to replace

Everything that I’ve had ‘til my feet went numb,

Praying like a fool that’s been on a run.

Heart’s still beating but it’s not working,

It’s like a million dollar phone that you just can’t ring.

I reach out trying to love but I feel nothing.

Yeah, my heart is numb.

But with you…

I feel again.

Yeah, with you…

I can feel again.

So what did I tell you guys? It is made of pure awesomesauce! I think I may be in love with every single song on this playlist! It’s safe to say it has made me even more anxious to pick up Elder! If you are a Spotify user, you can subscribe to the playlist by clicking this link. Also, since Raine is made of awesome (as I’ve stated time and time again) she has put together one heck of a giveaway for you guys in celebration of Elder’s release! Hello there all! Today’s artist is one I have featured MANY times here on the blog and one I am completely, totally, 100% sure you have heard of before. I have learned that you either love her or you hate her but just so we’re clear, for me it’s most definitely love! The artist I am speaking of is none other than T-Swizzle! Over the years my love for Taylor Swift’s music has not wavered even if her sound has changed, evolved, and developed. Her newest album, Red, is absolutely phenomenal! Some people have been getting their panties in a bunch because she has strayed quite a ways away from her country roots, but in my own humble opinion that girl has created another album full of tracks that fans can love & relate too. So even if you’re not a huge fan of Taylor, take a listen below and who knows, maybe you’ll be surprised!

Let me know what your favorite is in the comment section. Also, participants new and old, be sure to link up your Tune In Tuesday post by clicking the little guy at the very bottom!

22 by Taylor Swift

This is the perfect song to blast in the car with your best friends!

I Knew You Were Trouble by Taylor Swift

When I first heard that Taylor was going to attempt a dub step-ish song I didn’t even know what to think, I couldn’t even picture it. Well people, I am happy to announce she pulls it off so incredibly well. That performance was AWESOME!

The Last Time by Taylor Swift featuring Gary Lightbody (from Snow Patrol)

Good lord, I FREAKING LOVE THIS SONG! I squealed like a little school girl when I saw Gary was making an appearance on this album!

All Too Well by Taylor Swift

This song has quickly established itself as my favorite song from this album. I love that so many of her songs tell stories and this one is certainly no exception. It is beautiful and heartbreaking all at once!

Tune In Tuesday (80) Birthday Edition!

Does anyone know what today is? It’s November 27th! To most of you this day is just any other Tuesday but for me it is something way more! Today is the eve of my birthday and not just any birthday, it’s the eve of my 20th birthday!!!! Now don’t let my overuse of exclamation points fool you, I am actually quite sad I will no longer be a teenager :( Regardless I am also a bit excited to be a sort-of grownup. I say sort-of because I, in no way, shape, or form, plan on acting too adult-ish. I mean a girl’s still got to have fun, right?

So in honor of the super awesome times I had as a teenager and the many more awesome times I will have as a sort-of adult, here’s some of the music that helped make me who I am today!

p.s. Considering these are all songs I love (hardcore) they may or may not have been featured on a Tune In Tuesday post before. If this is in fact the 4th or 5th time you’ve seen the same song featured on my blog, I apologize. It won’t (okay…it probably will) happen again!

Yeah by Usher

It is no secret that Kati is my very best friend. When we were both embarrassingly awkward little girls in the 6th grade, we bonded over the fantasy that we would one day grow up and marry Usher. I can honestly remember each of us having our own CD players and pressing play at the very same time so we could sing his songs together! Also, our dance moves to this song? Nothing else compares.

Mr. Brightside by The Killers

Throughout 99% of my childhood, my sister and I did not agree on anything. However, when The Killers came along with this little doozy of a song, we couldn’t help but agree that we were in love with not only the song but the band as well!

We Are Young by 3OH!3

My friends and I were considered a little off for loving the heck out of this band in high school but we didn’t care. Whenever I think about all the awesome summers we’ve spent together, 3OH!3 is always a constant factor.

Fearless by Taylor Swift

If you know me at all, you know that I have a deep love and respect for this girl. Say what you will about her methods of revenge (which are kick-butt methods if you ask me) or just how good her voice even is (I happen to think it’s all sorts of awesome!) there is one thing you cannot deny and that is that she knows how to connect. Throughout those high school days spent doing all sorts of things that made me an utter nerd, her music was there for me, helping me along one awkward moment at a time.

Check Yes Juliet by We The Kings

LOVE THIS BAND! So many good times at their concerts, on the way to their concerts, singing in the car and reminiscing about their concerts <3 My sister, my best friend, and I have had so many fun memories involving We The Kings! And I’m sure there will be more to come, like when Travis and I get married (kidding…sort of)!

Hold On by Wilson Phillips

Kati and I singing this song over and over and over and over again in the car while pretending to play the drums on one of our many road trips….now that’s one teen habit that is so totally moving on to adult-ishhood!

Well there’s a glimpse at only a little sliver of the music I love and adored throughout my formative years! Be sure to leave a comment letting me know what your favorite songs as a teen were/are and link up your Tune In Tuesday post by clicking the cute, little button below!

TGIF (44)

There once was an awesome blogger named Ginger and she decided to create a super fun feature where fellow bloggers would answer fabulous questions via blog posts every Friday. TGIF was born and we all have Miss Ginger at GReads! to thank for that! This week’s question is:

Musical Stories:

If you could read a book about any song, which song would you love to see written down in story form?

Technically I was supposed to miss out on the question this week because I am out of town but this question is just way too good to pass up! Ever since Ginger posted it on her website, I have been thinking of my answer…A LOT! Music is a huge passion of mine and every time I hear a truly great song, I can picture a little mini movie in my head. However, there is one song in particular that doesn’t just cause me to imagine a mini movie, but instead I dream up a full-length block-buster, or I guess in this case, a novel! *Takes a deep breath because she has never mentioned the following statement to anyone EVER before* I have never really considered writing before but this song makes me think completely different.

Last Kiss by Taylor Swift stirs up so many emotions every time I hear it. Sometimes I find myself smiling, sighing at the pure rawness of her voice, or I cry because I have not gotten to experience a heartbreak so beautiful like that before (at least that is why I think I cry during the song). It is just so hard to explain just what it is that this song does to me. From the very first time I heard it until now, the millionth time I’ve listened to it, idea after idea has formulated in my head. My brain sometimes can’t keep up with all these crazy jumbled thoughts. This song is such a beautiful, raw, and emotional song and I honestly could think of nothing more I would rather do than attempt to create a book that brings it to life. I want to allow others to feel the very feelings that this song makes me feel. Call me crazy but I just may have to do it now!

Now, the reasons why I think this song would make a great story are endless but what it really comes down to is the beginning, the middle, and not an end exactly, but a future, one that allows readers (or listeners depending on which way you choose to look at it) to feel a sense of hope for the characters.

It has the perfect beginning:

There is the silly first stages of love, the moments that are filled with pure bliss and happiness like in the lyrics,

“I do remember the swing of your step
The life of the party, you’re showing off again
And I roll my eyes and then
You pull me in
I’m not much for dancing
But for you I did”

I can just picture this crazy, unpredictable, easy-going guy without a single care in the world finding his way in and getting under the skin of an uptight girl. Maybe to many they seem like an odd pair but they just fit together. I know, overkill in so many YA books already but it just fits this song to a T.

There is also the more “serious” stages of love involved like,

“I do recall now the smell of the rain
Fresh on the pavement
I ran off the plane
That July 9th
The beat of your heart
It jumps through your shirt
I can still feel your arms”

There is nothing like those incredibly swoon-worthy moments and these particular lyrics have SWOOOOOOOON written all over it!

It has the heartbreaking middle:

“But now I’ll go sit on the floor
Wearing your clothes
All that I know is
I don’t know how to be something you miss
I never thought we’d have a last kiss
Never imagined we’d end like this
Your name, forever the name on my lips”

This is the point in the story that the flood gates will be released. For reasons I haven’t quite figured out yet, the relationship comes to a crashing halt. Maybe he moves, decides to break up…who knows! Regardless of what the reason is, it is sure to leave a huge impact on readers, the lyrics are so emotional here and I can imagine that the story would be too.

And finally, the song leaves room for a brighter tomorrow:

“And I hope the sun shines
And it’s a beautiful day
And something reminds you
You wish you had stayed”

Sure the lyrics don’t exactly shout “Happily Ever After!” but stories don’t always have to! Maybe they go off and find someone else, maybe they move on and try to get through each day as best as they can, or maybe they take time apart and then realize they really are better together. This part is totally up in the air but I have a feeling the story will leave readers feeling content with the main characters ending point.

So I hope you guys enjoyed my impromptu outline! I will tell you this, it is completely nerve-wrecking just having told you all what I hope to do someday but I am very excited to give it a shot. I have not written down a single word except from what you see above but I really hope I work up the nerve to do it someday soon. Who knows, maybe it will not completely suck!

And now, the song that has started this all:

Tune In Tuesday (52)

Tune In Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the lovely Ginger @ GReads so you should head on over and link up! It is a great way to bounce from blog to blog and discover what others are listening to! I love music but there is so much out there that I haven’t heard of before. That being said, feel free to leave a link to your Tune-In Tuesday post!

This is the very last week of Tune In Tuesday Book Playlist Edition and it makes me so sad! I really wish I didn’t miss that one week because there is a ton of music related books I would have loved to share with you guys! But since it is the last week, I will try to make it extra special by posting a few of my very favorite songs that remind me of a few of my very favorite books!

Endlessly by Green River Ordinance paired with The Fault In Our Stars by John Green

I really felt so many raw emotions while reading this book that I could have easily picked 20 songs to go along with it! It broke my heart in the most beautiful way but it also showed me all about love and I think this song displays that perfectly.

Everything Falls Apart by Carter Hulsey paired with On Little Wings by Regina Sirois

I recently saw Carter in concert and picked up his CD. As soon as this song came on, I was reminded of Jennifer and Nathan’s story ESPECIALLY when the line from Robert’s poem is mentioned in the song. That plays an important role in the book.

Birds of a Feather by The Civil Wars paired with Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood

This song has that sort of hauntingly beautiful feel to it and that is exactly what I experienced while reading this book.

Sparks Fly by Taylor Swift paired with Forget You by Jennifer Echols

I still don’t know what it is about this song. It could be the mention of green eyes but I like to think it is just the whirlwind of feelings flying between Zoey and Doug in this book. You can definitely tell there are sparks flying between the two!

Daughter Of The Sun by Windsor Drive paired with Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta

This is another hard one to really explain. It may be because I listened to this CD a lot right around the time I read the book but I like to think that the lyrics tell a very similar story.

You Found Me by Kelly Clarkson paired with The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen

You know I had to pick at least one Sarah Dessen book! I actually had a super hard time because I feel as though her stories are so specific, it’s hard to match a song perfectly. I know this song gets paired with a lot of paranormal books but I actually really like how it fits with this story. Wes brings out a whole other side to Macy. She is just going through all the motions but Wes and the whole gang get her to open up and grow as a person.
