Tune In Tuesday Cover Edition

This feature was originally created by Ginger over at GReads! but you can now find it here at Kate’s Tales of Books and Bands. If you would like to participate in this weekly feature, make a blog post showcasing a song (or a few!) and link up at the bottom of this post by clicking the cute blue guy! While you’re here make sure to check out all the other awesome blogs that have decided to participate!

Hello and welcome to the first week of Tune In Tuesday: Cover Edition! For those of you just tuning in, for the month of September us Tune In Tuesday-ers are going to be showing off our favorite cover songs! I am incredibly excited for this fun feature and I hope you all are as well. For the most part, Tune In Tuesday will run exactly the same. You make up your post, share a song or two, come back here to link up at the bottom of the post, and then visit everyone else’s posts to see what they are sharing. The only thing that is different is the fact that we are featuring covers of our favorite songs this month.

Cover songs have quickly become a favorite of mine. I just absolutely LOVE it when I can enjoy an original song for what it is and also enjoy someone else’s take on it. There have been moments where I absolutely HATE an original song but then an artist I love does something different to it and I can’t seem to stop listening to it. There have also been moments in which I thought I liked an original version of a song until I heard an amazing cover of it and realized I couldn’t be more wrong. I’ve put together a few of my favorite covers below for you to listen to. I hope you enjoy!

Be My Baby by Hey Ocean! (Original by The Ronettes)

This is one of those songs in which I really can’t decide which one I like better! Seriously, both versions are so good!

Strawberry Swing by Artist Vs. Poet (Original by Coldplay)

Okay, don’t hate me. I love Coldplay, I absolutely do BUT this is one of those instances where I like the original just find but I happen to like the cover more. Artist Vs. Poet does some really fun, awesome covers one of my other favorites being “Mean” by Taylor Swift!

Blurred Lines by Addie Hamilton (Original by Robin Thicke)

This is another strange case. I absolutely loathe the original version of this song. Robin creeps me out like no other and I always rush to change the station every time it comes on. However, I absolutely adore Addie’s version of it. Her voice has that hint of raspiness in it and I feel like it just fits this song so well!

I Wanna Love You by The Maine (Original by Akon)

I like the original just fine. BUT I just happen to love The Maine something fierce so when they first came out with this cover, I went psycho and listened to it over and over again for weeks straight. It’s just so good, regardless of the somewhat dirty lyrics.

Lollipop by Framing Hanley (Original by Lil Wayne)

*The actual song doesn’t really start until about 2:15*

There is just something so awesome about this cover. I think it’s this whole “opposites attract” thing. It is so crazy-weird to see a rock band sing a rap song but in this particular case, it turned out to be pretty amazing.

Anyone else a huge fan of The Voice on NBC? If not, I’m not sure we can be friends any more*kidding…sort of* Every week, I get so excited to watch my recordings of this show because it is full of AMAZING talent! Honestly, I’ve been so blown away by nearly every artist that has auditioned for it and I know there is going to be more epic moments to come. While this season progresses I hope to randomly post a few of my favorite performances. Today I have two familiar faces that just happened to try out for this season!

It’s been no secret that I am a HUGE fan of Hey Monday (sadly they are not together anymore but be sure to check out their music because it’s still awesome) and Artist Vs Poet (who is still together, thank goodness because I adore them like no other). Each band has been a favorite of mine for a long time now and I’ve been lucky enough to see them each in concert. Cassadee from Hey Monday and Joe from Artist Vs Poet showed the world just how awesome their voices were during the blind auditions and both were moved on to the battle rounds. I cannot wait to see how they do throughout this season and even if they don’t win, I’ll still love them so very much!

Take a listen below to the auditions of Cassadee & Joe as well as one of their original songs!

Torn by Cassadee Pope on The Voice

How You Love Me Now by Hey Monday

Gives You Hell by Joe Kirkland on The Voice

Stay by Artist Vs Poet

All you need to do is open up your music library whether it be Amazon Player, Zune, iTunes, Pandora, Spotify, etc. Once you have it open, hit random and let it do the picking! I have had so much fun with this edition of Tune In Tuesday! For the last one I am going all out with FIVE picks from both iTunes and Spotify!!! I hope you guys enjoy!

iTunes:

Passenger Seat by The Summer Set

This is my very favorite song from The Summer Set, it’s even been my ringtone for nearly 2 years now.

Stacy’s Mom by Fountains of Wayne

When I hear this song I think back to middle school. It was so freaking popular!

End Tapes by The Joy Formidable

I love The Joy Formidable! The Breaking Dawn soundtrack wouldn’t be the same without them!

I Don’t Want To Wait by Paula Cole

Can anyone say Dawson’s Creek? I miss the days when reruns of this show would play twice a day every week!

Get To You by Paradise Fears

I love these guys, I love their music <3

Spotify:

All My Days by Alexi Murdoch

If you haven’t watched Real Steel yet, do yourself a favor and do so RIGHT NOW! This song plays at the very beginning and I was instantly a fan.

Further From You by William Fitzsimmons

His voice, it melts my heart.

Favorite Fix by Artist vs Poet

Another band I can’t help but love!

Crazier by Taylor Swift

You guys all know I am a huge fan of Taylor Swift, well now you also know I am a bit of a fan of Hannah Montana. Do not judge, it was a super cute movie!

Promise The Stars by We The Kings

No better way to end Tune In Tuesday Random Playlist Edition than with We The Kings!

Tune In Tuesday (46)

I decided to do the lazy thing this week and do another iPod shuffle post. School has been kicking my butt, seriously. But I promise to have a totally kick-butt Tune In Tuesday post up soon! In the mean time, enjoy the randomness!

When You Are Near by Carolina Liar

Carolina Liar has always been a favorite of mine. This isn’t my very favorite song by them but it still makes me smile big time!

At Last by Etta James

Etta James is so incredibly iconic. This song has been a major song in generation after generation. I still listen to it, sing like a cow on crack, and fall hopelessly in love with it every time it pops up on my iPod.

Car Crash by Artist vs Poet

I love these guys. You should probably know that because I post songs by them all the time. Seriously, do yourself a favor and listen to their music!

Queen Of Broken Hearts by The Bigger Lights

Nothing reminds me of summer more than this song. My sister and I got a mixed CD from one of the concerts we went to together. The whole following summer we played it in the car EVERYWHERE we went and this was always one of our favorites.

Sweating Bullets by Lacerda

Lacerda is one of those small bands that I just LOVE to tell people about. Even though this may not be may favorite song, there is no denying that these guys have some major talent!

Blog Tour + 25 Days of Jubilation + Tune In Tuesday: Part 2

Three awesome bloggers (Cyndi @ Dog-Eared & Bookmarked, Jacinda @ The Reading Housewives, and Yani @ The Secret Life of an Avid Reader) have come together this holiday season to host the 25 Days of Jubilation! What is this 25 Days of Jubilation you say? Well it is a month-long blog tour. Each day a different blog is posting a holiday related post and giving away lots of great goodies. Today is my turn to post for the event and I decided to go with HOLIDAY MUSIC!

Buddy the Elf once said, “The best way to spread Christmas Cheer, is singing loud for all to hear,” and I couldn’t agree more with that statement! I love the day after Thanksgiving for a lot of reasons but the biggest reason would be that it is finally an “acceptable” time to turn on the Christmas music. I am most definitely one of those crazy people who could listen to Christmas songs all year long. I have been known to rock out to the classics but I like to mix them up with modern-day songs as well . Below are my top ten “nontraditional” favorites, in no particular order:

1) Santa Baby – Taylor Swift

2) Christmas With You – Artist vs. Poet

3) This Christmas – Every Avenue

4) Wishlist – The Ready Set

5) Santa Stole My Girlfriend – The Maine

6) Winterlove – Parachute

7) Baby Please Come Home – Anberlin

8) Baby, It’s Cold Outside – She & Him

9)Winter Passing – The Academy Is…

10) Christmas at 22 – The Wonder Years

So tell me, what did you think? I thought posting some of these lesser known songs/versions of songs would be a fun way to celebrate this holiday season!

Now on to the part that you are all here for, the giveaway!

Tune In Tuesday (37)

Tune In Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the lovely Ginger @ GReads so you should head on over and link up! It is a great way to bounce from blog to blog and discover what others are listening to! I love music but there is so much out there that I haven’t heard of before. That being said, feel free to leave a link to your Tune-In Tuesday post!

This is the very first week for the month-long Concert Edition!!! Who else is super freaking excited for this? Going to concerts is my favorite activity to do. We have some decent clubs and small venues about 1-2 hours away and I just love taking the night to drive there and watch some awesome performances. Since I was about 14, my parents have trusted me enough to go to concerts with my friends. Over the past 5 years, I have been lucky enough to attend several amazing concerts all of which hold a special place in my heart.

To start things off right, I will have to post from my favorite concert of all-time! Warped Tour comes around once a year and it seems to out-do itself time and time again. I have attended the past four years and do not intend to quit until I am well over the proper age limit for concert attending (like grandma status). For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about, let me explain (at least how it is here in MI). At The Detroit Tiger’s Stadium, tons and tons of bands come together for one day of musical greatness. There are several stages set up throughout the parking lot (either 6 or 7) and a band plays every 30-45 minutes on each stage all day long. If you add that up (which I wont because I am too tired for math right now) it is a whole lot of concert seeing to be happening! You pay a flat cost (about $40) to enter the venue and then you can venture around to whatever stage you want whenever you want. Seriously guys, it is the funnest thing you will ever experience. The weather is usually hot, there is an ungodly amount of people many of which are either shirtless or high, and your feet will be crushed by the end of the day but it is all part of the experience. While at the concert there are a TON, and I mean a TON of chances to meet bands, get things signed, and buy all the merchandise your little heart desires.Honestly, if you have never attended before, I strongly suggest you do so because no other concert-going experience will compare!

Now on to the bands that have melted my heart at warped tour! (sidenote #1: Some of these ALL of these are repeat bands but since I love them so much, I figured I show them some love again today!) (sidenote #2: There are SO many more bands that I’d love to post but I would be here all day!)

There For Tomorrow

There I am with There For Tomorrow!

Windsor Drive

How awesome is it that he plays the piano?

The Maine

You may stare at this picture as long as you’d like. I understand, he is gorgeous.

Artist vs Poet

Monster can from Artist vs Poet. It still sits on my shelf!

Hey Monday

Sucky picture but the performance was AMAZEBALLS!

There is such a wide range of music at Warped Tour, that is what I think I love best! You’ve got the rocker chicks, the pop-punk bands, the alternative piano rock bands, you just have anything and everything!

And since I was feeling creative…

FICTIONAL CONCERT I AM DYING TO SEE:

Of course, I love books with music in them so I thought I’d have some fun with this feature and include a fictional concert I would love to see for real. To start things off this week I picked Audrey, Wait! by Robin Benway. Seeing the Do-Gooders perform and feeling all the wild energy from the crowd as they bust out the lyrics to Audrey, Wait! would be awesome. Being there at the start of someone’s career like that and feeling like I’ve watched their journey from nothing to Something Huge would be so extremely cool. Even though Audrey is one of my favorite gals EVER, and I know that song caused a lot of problems for her, I think hearing it live would be AMAZING!

Tune-In Tuesday (18)

Tune in Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the lovely Ginger @ GReads so you should head on over and link up! It is a great way to bounce from blog to blog and discover what others are listening to! I love music but there is so much out there that I haven’t heard of before. That being said, feel free to leave a link to your Tune-In Tuesday post!

This week’s band is a band that I really, truly adore. No matter what type of day I am having, I can always count on their music to make me smile. I don’t know what it is about them but they are just so fun to listen to. I especially love long drives in the summer time with the windows down and singing extremely loud (and bad) to their music. It is perfection. There really is not much else to say except LISTEN RIGHT NOW!!! Hope you enjoy!

~These guys are just so good that I could not choose just one song. Listen to all three…or not but at least try to!~

Artist vs Poet: Unconscious Reality

Artist vs Poet: Miserably Loving You

Artist vs Poet: Adorable

Do you guys see that Monster can I am holding? Well the lead singer of Artist vs Poet totally threw it at me after their concert last year. It is still sitting in my room…washed out of course!
